How often headshots need updating

As a general rule, a child’s headshot should be refreshed whenever they no longer look like it — which for younger children can be every six months or so, and more often around obvious changes: losing front teeth, a significant growth spurt, a haircut, or braces going on or coming off. Older children and teenagers can usually go longer. If you find yourself explaining to a casting director how your child has changed since the photo, it is already overdue.

Preparing for the session

• Bring simple, well-fitting tops in solid colours — no slogans, characters, or busy patterns, which date a photo and pull focus from the face
• Two or three genuinely different looks are more useful than several variations of the same one
• Schedule around your child’s energy rather than your convenience: a rested child photographs better than a tired one at a more convenient hour
• Bring a hairbrush and any everyday item that helps your child feel comfortable
• Keep the mood light — a child enjoying themselves will always beat a rehearsed smile
• If your child wears glasses or braces day to day, photograph them that way; the headshot should match who arrives at the audition

A retainer secures your session date, with the balance due on the day; the booking terms set out the exact amounts and the rescheduling policy. If your child is on submission with an agency, allow for the 10-day gallery delivery when planning around deadlines.

Your child’s privacy

For sessions involving a baby or child, only the child’s first name is ever used, if any name is used at all, and decisions about tagging on social media are always left to parents. If you would prefer that no image of your child appears on this website or on social media, say so and that is simply how the session runs.
